Newcastle United's Premier League Asia Trophy opponents revealed - and how fans can buy tickets

Newcastle United could yet avoid Manchester City at the Premier League Asia Trophy after being drawn against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the semi-finals of the pre-season tournament.

The Magpies will head to China for the Premier League's biennial launch event, which takes place between Wednesday, July 17, and Saturday, July 20.

With Rafa Benitez's future still uncertain, it is unclear whether the Spaniard - who has previously admitted that heading to China during pre-season is "not ideal" - will still be Newcastle manager come the start of the tournament.

When Newcastle's pre-season begins - and how two major tournaments will affect United's preparations

However, in a quote on the club's website, Benitez has described the tournament as a "great experience" for the Magpies.

"The Premier League Asia Trophy is an important time in our pre-season preparations," Benitez - who will hold talks with owner Mike Ashley this week - said.

"Playing against quality teams in front of our fans in China will be a great experience."

While United play Wolves at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center on Wednesday, July 17, at 6pm (local time), they will then take on either defending Premier League champions Man City or West Ham United on Saturday, July 20.

Should Newcastle lose to Wolves, they will take part in the third/fourth-place play-off at 6pm, or the final at 8.30pm, at the Shanghai Hongkou Football Stadium.

Tickets for the games in Nanjing range from £10 (88RMB, which is the Chinese currency the yuan) to £121 (1,088RMB) for hospitality for access to both games. For the Saturday in Shanghai, however, tickets range from £32 (288RMB) to £176 (1,580RMB) for both matches.

Fans will be able to buy tickets from the St James' Park box office from Tuesday, May 14. For full details, visit nufc.co.uk .
