Newcastle United's 'positive talks' on £30m Hugo Ekitike transfer, 'interest' in Steven Bergwijn

Here is your 4am Newcastle United transfer digest.

Ekitike talks

Several outlets are now reporting the Magpies have opened talks with Ligue 1 side Reims over a deal for wonderkid Hugo Ekitike.

The teenager only made his debut for the club in August, but has gone on to register eight goals and three assists in 17 appearances to date.

Sky Sports report that 'positive talks' have taken place between the two clubs, with the Magpies now expected to submit a bid in the region of £30m for the highly-rated 19-year-old forward.

The news comes a day after the Telegraph reported Chris Wood has also been identified as a target, with subsequent reports indicating Newcastle could take advantage of a possible release clause in the Burnley striker's contract.

Bergwijn 'interest'

Steven Bergwijn's days at Tottenham appear to be numbered, with a return to the Netherlands with Ajax mooted.

The Dutch international scored on his Tottenham debut in a victory over Manchester City, but has since scored just four more times and has failed to become a first-team regular.

Bergwijn is said to be 'considering his options' with a possible January loan exit, and 90min claim Newcastle have been 'alerted' to the 24-year-old's availability.

The report outlines Tottenham are yet to make a decision on the winger's future, but Antonio Conte has openly challenged the former PSV Eindhoven star to improve.
