Newcastle United's owners told to 'set a precedent' with January signings

Former Newcastle striker Micky Quinn has told Newcastle's owners to "make a statement of intent" and quash any rumours surrounding the club's financial backing.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Quinn told the new owners to bring in players that would strengthen the current crop of players and ensure Premier League survival next season.

The Magpies have been linked with a whole host of players since the Saudi led takeover made them the richest club in world football.

Kieran Trippier, Jesse Lingard, Aaron Ramsey and James Tarkowski are just some of the big named players to have been linked with a move to St. James' Park and speculation will only intensify now that the January transfer window has opened.

Quinn told SkySports: "It's time really for the owners to set a precedent. They've come to the club with an ambition and a feel good factor which we haven't had at Newcastle for over 15 years.

"I think now they've got to quash certain rumours, that there's not as much money as there was when they first came in, and so on and so on.

"They've got to quash that and make a statement in the transfer window. A statement of intent with players to strengthen that team to keep them in the Premier League for next season."
