Newcastle United's new owners 'approached' over potential TV series after Saudi takeover

The new owners of Newcastle United have reportedly been 'approached' over the prospect of filming a TV documentary series following the takeover.

Interest in affairs on Tyneside has skyrocketed following the £300m takeover which has confirmed Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund as the majority owners of the Magpies.

Financier Amanda Staveley and the billionaire Reuben brothers also now hold stakes in the club, transforming Newcastle into one of the world's richest clubs.

The sense of anticipation and fervour now on Tyneside is a far cry from the dying embers of the Mike Ashley era, which saw thousands of supporters walk away from the club.

Apathy gripped the fanbase as Newcastle aimed to keep 'ticking along' in Steve Bruce's words, with the club taking the extraordinary step of offering 10,000 free half-season tickets during his first season in charge.

Now, a change of ownership and an ambitious pitch to challenge the Premier League's elite and claim Newcastle's first top-flight title since 1927 has re-energised the club and the city.

The days since the takeover was announced has already been dominated by transfer rumours, and the Times report an 'eager' TV producer has already approached the Magpies over the prospect of a TV show.

Documentary series are a relatively new phenomenon in football with rivals Arsenal and Tottenham engaging in Amazon's 'All or Nothing', with Newcastle's rivals Sunderland the subject of the infamous Netflix 'Til I Die' series.

The title claim the unnamed TV producer is 'desperate to cash in on the buzz', but allegations Mohammed bin Salman hacked Jeff Bezos' phone make an Amazon production 'unlikely'.
