Newcastle United's message to Lee Bowyer after Sunderland play-off defeat

Newcastle United's arch-rivals Sunderland suffered Wembley agony as they lost the League One play-off final with virtually the last kick of the game.

Patrick Bauer's late, late winner for Charlton consigned the Black Cats to another season of League One football, as the Addicks came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 in London.

While Newcastle fans weren't shy of sharing their delight on social media, the official NUFC twitter account at least had an easier way of marking the scoreline.

They opted to instead congratulate Charlton manager Lee Bowyer - the former Newcastle United midfielder of course.

Bowyer played 98 times for Newcastle from 2003 to 2006, scoring 11 goals in his time on Tyneside.

And the Magpies were quick to congratulate him today, tweeting: "Congratulations to former Magpies midfielder Lee Bowyer on steering @CAFCofficial to the @SkyBetChamp !"

Of course many United fans were quick to praise the tweet for the subtle way it highlighted rivals Sunderland's failure.

One fan replied: "Give the social media manager a raise", while another responded: "Sensational Tweet... near as good as that Shearer Goal against Everton".
