Newcastle United's Lee Charnley set for Premier League's crucial Project Restart meeting

Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley is scheduled to sit in on tomorrow's Premier League video meeting to finalise Project Restart.

The Magpies are believed to be nearing the end of the Premier League's owner's and director's test - but top-flight chiefs did not comment today when asked by Chronicle Live whether the procedure was completed.

Charnley has been touted for an early exit ahead of the proposed takeover at St James' Park but his presence is a requirement from Premier League chiefs as they address just how the 2019/20 season resumes.

Big decisions in France, Holland and Belgium to cancel the season have added pressure to top-flight chiefs to follow suit but the fact the Bundesliga could well restart before the Premier League offers an air of slight optimism.

The Premier League are relying on government approval and have had clear criteria from Boris Johnson on what the restart would look like.

Huge questions such as whether the restart would place extra strain on the NHS on match days are left unanswered at the moment.

Concerns over supporters turning up at matches during the lockdown are also on the agenda with games to be played behind closed doors a certainty.

As it stands Newcastle still don't have a return date in the diary for training although the likes of Arsenal and Spurs are back at their respective training grounds.
