Newcastle United's latest furlough figures revealed by Government

Newcastle United are one of six Premier League clubs still claiming through the furlough scheme - according to the latest Government figures.

Data published by HM Revenue and Customs outlines the claims made by employers through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme from December through to February.

Specific totals have not been given, but bandings have been provided for each monthly claim.

Newcastle have banked between £100,001 to £250,000 for each listed month, and have potentially claimed more than their Premier League rivals in this three-month period.

The data also discloses Burnley, Fulham, Leeds United, Sheffield United and Southampton have made use of the scheme to varying degrees.

Leeds come closest to matching or surpassing the Magpies' total, with the Whites' claims in both December and February falling in the same bracket. However, their January claim fell between £50,001 and £100,000.

A recent report from the Athletic indicates United owner Mike Ashley has continued to make claims on the scheme beyond February.

March's data will be made available by the HMRC on June 3.
