Newcastle United's Jamaal Lascelles makes Everton transfer claim

Jamaal Lascelleshas revealed how he was shown around Everton’s Finch Farm training ground before eventually opting to join Newcastle United.

Centre-back Lascelles came through the ranks at Nottingham Forest before making the move to Newcastle in the summer of 2014.

And although Lascelles spent the first season of his Magpies career on loan at Forest, he has since gone on to establish himself as a Newcastle regular in the Premier League.

But it could have been very different for the now 27-year-old, who has now admitted he spent time at Everton’s training ground and was also attracting the interest of Arsenal at the time.

“The Arsenal interest, it was there. I think it was definitely there. I cannot remember who my agent was at the time, he told the Getting Messi Podcast.

“But not much was fed back to me because I was 18 and concentrating on my job. My Dad wanting it to not affect me or my ego. That was kind of kept away from me.

“The Everton thing, I actually went to the Everton training ground and had a look around and stuff.

“They were interested. I am not sure why it didn’t happen but they were interested as well. As a kid, there has always been paper talk and speculation.”
