Newcastle United's final plea to Matty Longstaff over contract talks

Steve Bruce admits that Newcastle United have issued a final plea to Matty Longstaff to sign the contract offer in front of him.

The midfielder has a deal on the table from Udinese and a couple of other clubs but is believed to be interested in playing in Serie A and taking on the likes of Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Lazio next season.

Bruce wants Longstaff as part of his long-term project at United but the 20-year-old is unconvinced he will get the regular game-time that will allow him to develop.

He last started a Premier League game back in January in the 2-2 draw with Everton.

After holding talks with the England youth international last week, Bruce was asked again in his Press conference where things stood.

Bruce, when asked if he'd had a decision, said: "Unfortunately no.

"We keep plodding away and we have two or three weeks now until the end of the season.

"We have done everything we can to reassure that his future is with us and he stays here.

"We made him a wonderful offer and it is now up to Matty.

"The ball is in his court and we say to him: 'Where do you want to ply your trade?'

"We all hope that it is here.

"I have tried my upmost to get him to commit, but it is the player's prerogative these days.

"We will just have to wait and see and hopefully we will have good news one day."
