Newcastle United's exciting youngster Joe White makes return from injury

Newcastle United teenager Joe White has made a successful return from injury after a season on the sidelines.

The 18-year-old, who signed a professional deal last year and trained with the first-team, picked up a thigh problem three months ago but has now recovered.

His thigh injury capped a frustrating year after finding himself heavily involved with the Under-23s last season and also scoring twice in the Under-18's Academy derby against Sunderland in a 3-1 win before lockdown.

Carlisle-born White played 90 minutes in Monday's 3-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers in Premier League 2 at Whitley Park.

White posted on his Instagram account this week: "Good to be back after a tough time out."

Academy boss Joe Joyce had spoken about White's progress last season when he said: "He's a very level-headed individual and I would expect this to inspire him to continue his good work, and hopefully he'll be recognised on the international stage sooner rather than later."

Central midfielder White was called up by England Under-18s last season but will now want to get his head down in the reserves and catch the eye of first-team staff.

After his second string team-mate Elliot Anderson was called up to stay with the senior side at Benton, a clear pathway has opened up at Newcastle.
