Newcastle United's Elias Sorensen nets in friendly against Rangers

Newcastle United striker Elias Sorensen has today been handed some much needed game-time with Carlisle United after playing his part in a friendly against Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers.

The Dane scored in a 2-1 win with a goal from a tight angle after a good run into the box.

And he came close to grabbing a second goal after a solo run from the halfway line before being denied by Rangers goalkeeper Andy Firth.

The game - which was played at Murray Park - was Sorensen get 90 minutes under his belt.

Sorensen was an unused sub for Carlisle during their 1-0 defeat at Newport County and there have been suggestions he is not fully fit.

Newcastle continue to monitor his progress with Shola Ameobi keeping a close eye on events at Brunton Park.

The Cumbrians face Crewe Alexandra in their League Two clash on Saturday afternoon.

Sorensen will be looking to add to his modest tally of just 113 minutes in the EFL’s basement division this term.
