Newcastle United's Callum Wilson deal close as striker set for medical on Monday

Callum Wilson has landed on Tyneside to complete his £20million move from AFC Bournemouth.

Chronicle Live understands that Mike Ashley laid on his helicopter to ensure that Wilson's move is swiftly tied up.

A medical now awaits the Bournemouth striker and the usual formalities but Steve Bruce is hopeful of the deal being pushed through soon.

Wilson had also been the subject of a higher bid - £21million - from Aston Villa, but the second city side pulled out once the 28-year-old declared his eagerness to play for the Magpies.

Bruce also wants to complete a deal for free transfer Ryan Fraser and Norwich City full-back Jamal Lewis after a £13.5million offer was accepted.

The Magpies have already signed midfielder Jeff Hendrick on a free after his deal with Burnley expired, and brought goalkeeper Mark Gillespie to Tyneside from Motherwell earlier in the summer.

United get their Premier League season under way on Saturday when they take on West Ham United.
