Newcastle United's £10m man lifts lid on his future amid Nottingham Forest interest

Winger Jacob Murphy plans on giving Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce a selection headache going into the new season.

Murphy, who spent a fruitful campaign on loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season, has been linked with a host of clubs in the Championship this summer, including Nottingham Forest.

The 25-year-old is back in from the cold at St James’ Park, and scored a penalty in Saturday’s friendly win over Barnsley, a goal, which he hopes, will give him momentum in a bid to impress Bruce.

"I want to show everybody what I'm about,” he told Newcastle’s in-house TV station.

"I thought that (the penalty) was a great opportunity to get on the scoresheet and put down a marker. I feel that given the opportunity I can show what I have got.

"So far in pre-season I am showing what I am about.

"For me it is about putting in good performances just to give the manager a headache."

Murphy, who the Toon paid £10m to Norwich for three years ago, produced some fine form at Hillsborough, scoring nine times in what proved to be a difficult season in the Steel City, but the winger did more than enough to impress, with the Owls desperate to have him back.

And he hopes that this summer could be the one where he earns his chance to pin down a place in the Bruce's Premier League squad.

"I am pleased with how things are going this pre-season and hopefully I can keep putting in good performances on the pitch," he said.

"Last season was an amazing season for me. I really got into my rhythm and gained confidence and I think I have shown that again here.

"I want to keep the confidence high and keep on putting in the performances. I have been working hard on my confidence.

"I won the penalty and I was the one who wanted to step up and take it. It has grown a lot and I think I have shown that in my performances.

"I do well when I get a run of games under my belt like I did at Sheffield Wednesday. Here I feel like I am building on it."
