Newcastle United run rule over Dutch youngster Colin Odutayo but player now on trial with Sheff Wed

Newcastle United have ran the rule over former Aston Villa youngster Colin Odutayo.

The 19-year-old played 90 minutes in the Under-23's 1-1 draw with Hartlepool United this week but the Magpies are mulling over their options on the player.

The Dutch youngster, who can play left-wing or down the opposite flank, has been released by Villa and is searching for a new side.

However, the Roermond-born player is now spending the week with Sheffield Wednesday and it remains unclear whether United will take another look at this stage.

The Magpies conceded a late equaliser against Pools earlier in the week after taking the lead through an Elias Sorensen penalty.

A new look second string saw Jack Young take the armband and former defender Peter Ramage watch his first game as Under-23 coach.

Ramage will work alongside Chris Hogg and Ben Dawson this season.

United's season at second string level was curtailed last term due the virus pandemic when the young Magpies were fighting on three fronts in Premier League 2 and two cups.
