Newcastle United rocked by double injury blow ahead of Burnley encounter

Newcastle United have been rocked by an injury to captain Jamaal Lascelles ahead of the home encounter with Burnley.

The Magpies will also be without Sweden international Emil Krafth while the meeting with the Clarets comes too early for Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett.

It means manager Steve Bruce will have to rejig his defensive rearguard but Fabian Schar is now fit again after a shoulder injury and Isaac Hayden is an alternative in the heart of defence having played there against Spurs in the 1-1 draw.

Bruce said today: "Lascelles and Krafth are a bit of a problem [with injury].

"Fabian Schar is OK and he's really ahead of schedule but we're a bit light defensively.

"Clark and Dummett could be back soon - we're expecting them to be training a week on Monday."

There was better news for Allan Saint-Maximin with the winger fit again after an ankle injury.

He said: "Allan looks as if he'll be fit. It's a big day for him today, but he's trained all week.

"We decided not to risk him against Newport.

"He's got over his ankle injury and we're glad to see him back."
