Newcastle United release statement after Allan Saint-Maximin supermarket selfie

Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin did not break any rules when visiting a supermarket last night - the club have confirmed.

Since Saint-Maximin's return to the UK from a festive break to recover from Covid, reports of potential action from the Premier League have emerged after the winger was pictured with a supporter in Sainsbury's.

However, the club have insisted he has done nothing wrong and is following the correct protocols in order to return to the field.

An NUFC statement read: "Following a request from the media, Newcastle United can confirm that Allan Saint-Maximin did not contravene any UK quarantine rules during a visit to a supermarket in Newcastle on Thursday evening.

"Allan will continue to adhere to all quarantine rules and Covid-19 guidelines and will follow return to training protocols.

"The club considers this matter closed and will not be issuing further comment."
