Newcastle United refusing to give up on Danny Rose but will have to make bumper offer

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce is refusing to give up on the prospect of signing England left-back Danny Rose.

The out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur man is determined to get the full value out of his contract situation with the London club, meaning it would take a competitive offer from the Magpies to land the defender before deadline day.

Rose's contract runs down in 2021 and he has been told by Spurs he won't be getting another deal.

But by the same token, Rose has warned he won't leave until his contract is up.

Newcastle's key to winning the battle to sign Rose would be to make it worth his while on terms of bettering his £60,000 per week wages and offering the security of further years.

Bruce said last week: “It would be wrong for me to sit and talk about other people’s players.

“He’s a quality player and a class act the kid. Whether it’s possible, who knows?”

United were also linked with Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam with reports suggesting that there was an approach yesterday.

But the suggestion of an approach has been played down by sources on Tyneside at this stage, even if the player was offered to Premier League clubs by his agent in recent days.
