Newcastle United recall loan star as they clamp down on coronavirus procedures

Newcastle United have cut short Dan Barlaser’s loan spell with Rotherham United.

The midfielder has returned to Tyneside and been told to go into self-isolation by order of the club doctor Paul Catterson.

Barlaser has been a key player for the Millers in League One this season and helped them push for automatic promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship.

Rotherham boss Paul Warne said: “Yesterday, Dan Barlaser got called back from Newcastle. They didn’t want him to train.

“They wanted him to self-isolate.

“They kindly contacted me, and said this is Newcastle’s policy.

“They want everyone to self-isolate, and they’d appreciate if I understood and allowed Dan to do the same thing.”

Barlaser, as revealed by the Chronicle earlier this year, was always going to be recalled by Steve Bruce in July.

The Toon boss has been impressed with reports and clips of Barlaser this season and wanted to take a closer look in pre-season.
