Newcastle United push on with attempts to offload Achraf Lazaar ahead of European deadline day

Newcastle United are trying to negotiate a price with Serie B side Cosenza for Achraf Lazaar ahead of the European transfer deadline.

Chronicle Live understands that a loan option has been accepted but Newcastle are attempting to add a buyout clause to the deal to move him on permanently.

The Magpies are desperate to off-load some senior players with Jack Colback, Lazaar, Henri Saivet, Rolando Aarons and Jamie Sterry.

None of them have squad numbers and failed to make the squad, but are still draining the club of over £125,000 per week in total.

Lazaar, though, is keen to show what he can do and is prepared to take a chance in Serie B.

The former Palermo star has two years left of his current contract.

Rafa Benitez signed the player for £2.6million from Palermo in 2016 but he has suffered injury problems and not been able to enjoy a run in the team

The window closes on Monday, 2nd September.
