Newcastle United prospect 'delighted' to seal permanent transfer after January loan

Former Newcastle United prospect Jack Young has expressed his delight after making his move to Wycombe Wanderers permanent. The young midfielder initially joined the Chairboys on loan in January, but has penned a three-year deal to remain with the League One side.

Young joined the Magpies as a seven-year-old and signed his first professional contact in 2019. The 21-year-old was named in the matchday squad for three Premier League fixtures under Steve Bruce towards the end of the 2019/20 season.

Young has previously enjoyed a loan stint with Tranmere Rovers, and made his senior debut in black-and-white in the pre-season victory at Doncaster Rovers in July. The central midfielder, who also captained United's under-23 side on several occasions, has made just two substitute appearances for Gareth Ainsworth's side so far, but has agreed a deal with the club until 2025.

Young told the club's website: "I'm delighted, I've come here on loan and knew straight away it was a place I would want to be with the whole environment, and I can't wait to spend some more time here.

"All the boys are great. It's very far [from Newcastle], it's a lot warmer or just a little bit! The club as a whole and the environment makes it really easy for anyone coming here."

Ainsworth added: "Jack's really impressed us, since the day he arrived, and we're delighted to have him on board on a permanent basis. He was brought to our attention by our recruitment team earlier in the season and we were really pleased to have the chance to take a look at him during his loan deal.

"Every time he's gone out there to train or play in matches, he's given 100% and showed real quality, so it's fantastic to have him here for the next three years and we're looking forward to helping him unlock more of his potential."
