Newcastle United promote teenager and ex-Liverpool defender to first-team training

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has promoted youngster Remi Savage to his first team-squad as preparations for the weekend trip to Watford continue.

The club released a batch of images on their website but there was no sign of midfielder Joe Willock after the summer signing was spotted in a protective boot earlier this week.

Savage, 19, arrived from Liverpool on loan in the summer and the centre-back joined fellow youngsters such as Joe White, Jack Young and Elliot Anderson in training.

Willock wasn't the only who wasn't pictured with skipper Jamaal Lascelles also missing.

Savage has made just six appearances for the Under-23s since joining from Liverpool but after running the rule over the second string earlier in the week, Bruce took a closer look in training before Saturday's clash at Watford.

With Freddie Woodman injured, Bruce was also boosted by the sight of Martin Dubravka back on the training pitches this week.

However, Watford could come too early for the Slovakia international and Mark Gillespie was used in a practice match today.
