Newcastle United prepare to unveil Joe Willock with medical booked

Newcastle United have a medical booked in for Joe Willock and hope he will be available to face West Ham at the weekend.

Having agreed a £25million deal with Arsenal, contract talks stalled when the Magpies and Willock's representatives could not agree personal terms.

At that stage Willock's representatives left the room in terms of the negotiations but Newcastle did not throw the towel in.

But after the player returned to Arsenal's training ground, the deal was resurrected and while Mikel Arteta was still cautious this morning, Newcastle are expecting Willock in the North-East tonight.

United found themselves in a position where they needed to hand out a deal that reflected Willock's efforts last season.

Arteta said today: "What he’s done is put himself in a really strong position where he can choose what his future will look like."

Newcastle will now hope to unveil Willock ahead of the opener with West Ham and there could be a couple of loan additions to follow with Steve Bruce having two more options available on that front.
