Newcastle United player ratings: Lejeune the star as Magpies earn incredible point

Newcastle United earned an incredible draw at Goodison Park with two goals in stoppage time.

Substitute Florian Lejeune notched twice in the 95th and 96th minute as Newcastle salvaged a draw on a night when they had been very much second best.

Moises Kean and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored goals either side of half-time and the scoreline did not flatter Everton, who dominated possession and wasted a series of decent chances to put the game to bed.

But this Newcastle team do not know when they're beaten and even when it looked bleak, they continued to plug away.

Lejeune was a substitute, one of three defenders Steve Bruce threw on in the second half, but scored with an acrobatic goal deep into stoppage time. There were barely any celebrations but that changed a few seconds later when a free-kick was flung into the penalty area and Jordan Pickford failed to keep out a Lejeune effort.

It meant Newcastle had taken four points from late heroics in a few days. Here are Lee Ryder's player ratings .

The verdict from the press box as Lejeune saves an unlikely point

Martin Dubravaka 8

Kept the score down in truth as Everton piled on the pressure.

Isaac Hayden 6

Switched back to central midfield after below par display at right wing-back.

Federico Fernandez 6

Not convincing for Everton’s opener.

Jamaal Lascelles 6

Did not react quickly enough as Calvert-Lewin fired home. Struggled against the Everton marksman. But then made a menace of himself late in the game.

Ciaran Clark 6

Held his own and almost got in the way of Calvert-Lewin’s shot. Subbed after picking up yellow card.

Matt Ritchie 7

Cajoled Newcastle through the game.

Sean Longstaff 6

Got through a rough spell in the game to help stage a dramatic comeback.

Matty Longstaff 7

Never stopped working and chipped in with some timely interceptions.

Christian Atsu 3

Poor show. Didn’t manage a single cross before being hooked.

Miguel Almiron 7

Was United’s livewire but can’t do it all himself.

Joelinton 5

Fizzled out after half-decent first half.

Subs

Emil Krafth 6 (for Atsu 62)

Went through the motions.

Florian Lejeune 8 (for Clark 69)

Who needs a new striker? Secured a man of the match award in stoppage time. Unprecedented.

Fabian Schar (for Joelinton 77)

*Subs must play 15 minutes to earn a mark.
