Newcastle United player DeAndre Yedlin undergoes surgery

DeAndre Yedlin has undergone surgery after missing Newcastle United's defeat to Liverpool with a groin injury.

The United States international has not played since the loss to Crystal Palace on April 6, when he gave away a penalty, and has seen Javier Manquillo take his place in the side.

Before the Liverpool defeat, Yedlin was left on the bench for the previous three games but Rafa Benitez confirmed on Friday that he pulled up with a 'groin problem' before the visit of Jurgen Klopp's side so was unavailable.

The 25-year-old has now taken to Instagram from his hospital bed to reveal he has gone under the knife.

'Surgery complete. Now time to recover,' he captioned a post-surgery photo.

Although he will miss Newcastle's final game of the season, against Fulham on Sunday, it is not yet clear how long Yedin will be out for this summer.

The CONCAF Gold Cup gets underway next month and the right-back will have been desperate to be involved as the USA take on Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and Panama in the group stages.

Yedin captained his country for the first time in March.
