Newcastle United part owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has sent a warm welcome to Newcastle United new boy Sven Botman. The Magpies chief continued the tradition of heralding signings, by welcoming Botman into the Magpies' 'family'.
It may be a small word, but it signifies the project United are trying to achieve under Eddie Howe and Dan Ashworth. Ghodoussi, and partner Amanda Staveley, have been very much at the forefront of the Newcastle takeover, and have a struck a close bond with the fanbase.
And he took to social media following the announcement that a deal had been agreed in principle with Lille to sign Botman. The transfer is expected to be officially completed in the coming days.
Ghodoussi tweeted: "Welcome to the family Sven" followed by a red heart, a message which was liked more than 5000 times in under 20 minutes. Fellow co-owner Jamie Reuben also added his voice to the welcome, messaging: "Welcome to the best club in the world".
A statement from the club read: "Newcastle United have agreed a deal in principle with LOSC Lille to sign Dutch defender Sven Botman for an undisclosed fee, holding off competition from a host of European sides to secure the highly-rated centre-back. Botman has completed his medical on Tyneside and agreed the terms of a five-year contract. The formalities of the transfer are set to be concluded this week, following which the 22-year-old will officially become a Newcastle United player."
