Newcastle United part company with Yoshinori Muto by "mutual consent"

Newcastle United have successfully offloaded Yoshinori Muto to free up a squad place and trim the wage will.

The Japan international has been heavily linked with a move back to his home country with Vissel Kobe hopeful of adding him to their roster.

Newcastle announced the exit of Muto this afternoon with a short statement reading: "Japan international forward Yoshinori Muto has left Newcastle United by mutual consent.

"The club and player have come to an agreement on the final year of his contract, with the 29-year-old making ten starts in all competitions following his 2018 move from Mainz 05.

"He has made a further 18 appearances from the bench and has scored twice - the first on his first league start, away at Manchester United, and the other against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.

"Muto spent last season on loan with Eibar in Spain's La Liga. Everybody at Newcastle United thanks him for his efforts at St. James' Park and wishes him well for the future."

Muto's last game for the club proved to be the 1-0 defeat at York City when he came off the bench and made no impact.

He leaves with just one Premier League goal for the Magpies to his name after the £9.5million switch from Germany in 2018.
