Newcastle United owners' message to fans as process of appointing Steve Bruce successor begins

Newcastle United are expected to assess their options quickly after the departure of Steve Bruce.

United's new hierarchy have a list of candidates and will not waste any time given the club's plight at the bottom of the table.

The powers that be are hoping for a new manager bounce and Paulo Fonseca, formerly of AS Roma, is understood to be close to the top of their wanted list.

On the day it emerged that Bruce had gone, former Luton Town boss Graeme Jones was put in caretaker charge.

Newcastle's statement on the next boss read: "The process of recruiting a new head coach is under way and an appointment will be announced in due course.

"The club will not be making further comment at this time."

Bruce's remaining back-room team of Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence are also expected to be paid up.

But longer serving members of the team, such as goalkeeper coach Simon Smith and first-team coach Ben Dawson, who is the link-up man with the club's Academy could stay on.

Bruce commented after his departure: "This is a club with incredible support, and I hope the new owners can take it forward to where we all want it to be. I wish everyone the very best of luck for the rest of this season and beyond."
