Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley set to return to the scene for transfer meeting with Steve Bruce

Mike Ashley is about to return to the scene at Newcastle United in what could be a decisive moment as far as the January transfer window is concerned.

United are still open to the idea of bringing in players in all positions but Steve Bruce insists it has to be the right fit for United.

When asked about transfers, Bruce said: "I am meeting up with the owner in the next couple of days. That is planned.

"As I have said all along, if there is something that can make us better and they are available I will ask the owner, of course.

"He was very supportive in the summer.

"So let's see what we can get.

"I have said all along we won't just bring players in for the sake of it.

"Most of the injuries we have will be back in two or three weeks.

"I am not one for just bringing in people for the sake of it, they have to improve us.

"I will have that conversation over the next couple of days.

Newcastle splashed out on Allan Saint-Maxmin and Joelinton in the summer but Bruce knows he needs to move players on first.

Henri Saivet, Jamie Sterry and Ki are all players set to leave this month.

Speaking about incoming deals, Bruce added: "He was very supportive in the summer and he has been very supportive full stop."
