Newcastle United offered Republic of Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick as recruitment plans step up

Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Republic of Ireland international Jeff Hendrick.

The 28-year-old midfielder has also been linked with Aston Villa, and was a target of AC Milan earlier in the year.

Hendrick left Burnley on a free transfer last month and is now weighing up his next move.

In recent days Hendrick has been a reported target of Manchester United.

The Euro 2016 player has made 122 appearances for Burnley and scored nine goals after almost 200 appearances for Derby County.

United have been looking for midfielders with Matty Longstaff’s future still unclear.

The England Under-20 international was said to be a target of Leeds United today but Newcastle have been in conversation with the midfielder since the season ended last week.

Steve Bruce stated he wanted to hold on to the Academy product after the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at St James’ Park.
