Newcastle United offer Danny Rose a route out of Tottenham should his contract stance soften

Newcastle United are ready to offer Danny Rose a route out of Tottenham this month after he fell out of favour under Jose Mourinho.

The Magpies are among the clubs interested in Rose, who was left out of the squad for a third consecutive match in last night’s 2-1 win over Norwich.

Mourinho denied having an altercation with Rose over his exclusion for Saturday’s draw at Watford, but has made it plain that Ben Davies will be his first choice left-back when fit, while youngsters Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon have filled in there.

Rose has previously insisted he will not leave Spurs until his contract expires in the summer of 2021, telling Standard Sport in November: “In January, you are probably going to hear something [about my future]. I’m telling you right now that I’m not going anywhere until my contract is finished.”

Spurs, however, hope Rose’s stance will soften, particularly with this summer’s European Championship finals to consider.

Newcastle are facing a crisis at left-back, with both Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett sidelined for the rest of the season, and they have been given encouragement by Spurs that Rose can leave for a nominal fee. Rose has previously said he wants to play in the north of England again before he retires.

Watford, who have targeted the 29-year-old in the past two summers, are also in the hunt for a left-back but are thought to be prioritising other targets.
