Newcastle United notes: Steve Bruce's festive gesture to the North East press pack

Newcastle United picked up another win in the Premier League to edge to 25 points for the season so far.

The Magpies won it thanks to with just nine minutes left to spark manic scenes behind the goal.

Here's what made it into the notepad this weekend.

Steve Bruce buys every journalist a festive drink - but delivers quip to the Press afterwards!

Bruce has certainly had some tricky times when facing the media this season and his fair share of detractors too.

At the moment though he's winning in every sense of the word as Toon boss.

On Saturday night it felt like a long way from the media suites of Norwich and Leicester were Bruce delivered some harsh words.

After netting the win he immediately ordered two buckets of beer and some wine for the media.

Once he'd completed his Press duties he said: "There's a bucket of beer over there! I've made sure that they are warm and you don't enjoy them!

"But seriously merry Christmas and all the best."

With 25 points in the bag, Bruce will deserve a festive drink while watching Match of the Day after a superb first half of the season.

It's 12 months on since the Christmas "miracle" story at St James' Park

Cast your mind back to a year ago and Rafa Benitez did not pull any punches when asked what it would take to avoid relegation.

In a strong Press conference he stated it might take "miracle" for his squad to get out of trouble.

Fast forward 12 months and Newcastle are eight points better off and six places further up the table.

True, there are tough games to come against Man United and Everton but United's form has to be applauded.

Just for the record the Magpies' unbeaten run of eight home matches is the best form on Tyneside since 2012 during a sequence in which they qualified for Europe.

Miguel Almiron makes the most of his celebrations - long after the game finished

Almiron's wild celebrations including hugs from team-mates and fans.

But the playmaker - who scored his first goal in his 27th Premier League game for the club - could not have picked a better game to score.

With friends and family in the stands, he left the stadium still drenched in euphoria.

And after wishing fans a happy Christmas he walked out of the stadium draped in a Paraguay flag.

He deserved his moment.

Sean Longstaff is the ultimate team player - you could even put your shirt on it

There's always one sensible head needed during a moment of madness like Miguel Almiron's goal.

Although, there were still seven minutes left to play in the game when the South American struck his first top-flight goal.

While the celebrations were in full swing, Longstaff started the refocus for his team by retrieving the shirt Almiron had flung off and even reversed the shirt from its inside out status!

Newcastle reset, turned around and won the game.
