Newcastle United notes: Steve Bruce hints at further new faces in breathless post-match presser

Steve Bruce was pretty much lost for words after Newcastle’s enthralling comeback against Everton.

But then had to carry out his post-game media duties.

As walked into the Press room, Everton legends Ian Snodin and Graham Stuart were licking their wounds.

Bruce quipped: “Ah the Evertonians!

“Do you need a sick bucket boys!”

But Bruce knew his team had been fortunate.

That said, given the bad luck his side have endured, was this a bit of payback?

Bruce deserved this moment.

The moment the miracle was confirmed

It was the vibrating wristband of Simon Hooper that indicated Newcastle had somehow stole a point.

When , it was the cue for wild celebrations led by Matty Longstaff.

At that stage, it was the cue for every journalist to reshape their copy.

From a poor show to an excellent point in the space of minutes.

Bruce’s answer on transfers

It was easy to forget that Newcastle had started the day celebrating the arrival of Nablib Bentaleb.

Inevitably, Bruce was asked if he would be signing more players.

He did his best to manage expectation but didn’t rule out further new faces.

And fears on Allan Saint-Maximin were allayed

The Frenchman was missing and boy did it show.

But Bruce revealed afterwards that it was just a precaution.

He said: “I couldn’t play Saint-Maximin after seeing him yesterday so we left him behind.

“We hope he’s available for Saturday.”
