Newcastle United next manager odds slashed amid Steve Bruce pressure

Steve Bruce's future at Newcastle United has been the subject of big debate recently.

And it has not stopped following the Magpies ' 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Friday night in the Premier League.

Bruce recently hit out at the Chronicle following what he perceived to be negative coverage impacting on fans' views on him and the team.

Supporters naturally reacted angrily to that suggestion, but Bruce has still been backed by sections of the media, most notably former players, who have been claiming that fans should cut the manager some slack.

All of this has seen Bruce's position come under more scrutiny and now Betfair are reporting that former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has had his odds to replace the 60-year-old slashed.

Sam Rosbottom of Betfair tweeted: "Movement on the next Newcastle manager market! Punters have been backing Eddie Howe to take over St James'. His odds have been slashed from 6/1 to 2/1 on @Betfair in the past hour."

Bruce most recently commented to the press after the draw vs Leeds and discussed the negativity surrounding him and the club.

When asked about the swirl of discontent at St James' Park on Friday night, Bruce told the Chronicle: "It is very, very difficult - it is the demand of a big club.

"We are a big club with huge support. And there is a frustration and we want Newcastle competing in the top half of the division.

"At the moment we're not. So we have to accept the criticism that comes our way and get on with it, not let it affect you. And keep trying to do your job the best you can."
