Murphy considered Toon’s ‘best finisher’
Whilst it was disappointing that Newcastle came away with just a point in the 1-1 draw against Watford yesterday, the Magpies created a host of chances.
The best of those fell to Jacob Murphy in the second half as he raced through one-on-one with Ben Foster and looked destined to put the ball in the back of the net.
However, he got caught in two minds and could only muster a poor chipped attempt which was never going to trouble the goalkeeper.
In his post-match interview, Newcastle goalscorer Sean Longstaff made a surprise admission about his teammate.
“We have had a lot of good chances,” he admitted. “Obviously Murph (Jacob Murphy) at the end, he’s probably the best finisher at the club and if we could have picked anyone to be in that situation at that time, it would have been him.”
Murphy response to glaring miss
It certainly wasn’t Murphy’s finest moment in the black and white shirt as he had the chance to seal a vital first win of the season and, unsurprisingly, Steve Bruce was baffled by his decision in front of goal.
Despite the very audible groans of a packed away end after he fumbled such a golden opportunity, the player himself was thankful of the support given by the Magpies supporters.
On Instagram, he wrote: “Thank you for the support, appreciate you. We learn, improve and make things better.”

Lineker reminds Shearer of worrying Newcastle stat
As he so often is, Alan Shearer was part of the panel on Match of the Day last night and he was once again left to pore over another disappointing result from his former side.
For the watching Toon faithful, this would not have been helped by the customary dig from Gary Lineker who rubbed salt in the wounds by reiterating an alarming statistic.
“First team Alan, to fail to win any of their first six games in a Premier League season, on as many as six occasions,” said the former Leicester City striker.
Shearer responded by drawing on the positives that he had seen from the match, saying: "Alright, don't be on the negative side. We created lots of chances!"
