Newcastle United news as update provided on search for a Director of Football

Here are your Newcastle United evening headlines on Saturday, December 25.

Director of Football search update provided

An update on Newcastle United's search for a Director of Football has been provided by Keith Downie, Sky Sports' North-East England reporter.

A new era at St James' Park was ushered in back in October when the club were officially taken over, yet the new regime has yet to appoint a Director of Football despite signalling an intention to do so.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Downie said: "This director of football search has gone on a while as well, and the Newcastle United fans look at it and say, ‘Why is it taking so long because this is costing us, this is a crucial time.'

"And of course it is, but this is just the way they're deciding to do things, and I think that is the directive from Saudi Arabia. So, that is where we're at with this."

Co-owner delivers Christmas message to supporters

Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben has claimed 'better days are coming' in his Christmas message to supporters.

The St James' Park faithful have had to endure a torrid run of form since the beginning of the current campaign but will be hoping January transfer window additions can help reverse the club's fortunes.

Reuben has thanked supporters for backing the side and acknowledged that it has been 'tough' at times for fans.

In a video shared by the official Newcastle United Twitter account, he said: "I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our incredible supporters in Newcastle and around the world for the support they have shown us and the team this season.

"It's greatly appreciated. I know at times it has been tough but better days are coming.

"I also want to recognise the incredible generosity shown by our fans towards the Newcastle Food Bank which has provided invaluable support to those most in need in our community.

"It shows once again that we aren't just a football club but the heart of a great city. I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and I look forward to seeing you soon at St James' Park."
