Newcastle United news as new appointment planned and Andy Carroll eyed for Premier League return

Here are the latest Newcastle United evening headlines on Tuesday, 6 September 2022.

Spanish manual therapist

Newcastle United are leaving no stone unturned in a bid to ensure the players have 'every tool' they need to perform as the club search for a new bi-lingual manual therapist.

Newcastle already have a fluent Spanish speaker working in the medical department in first-team physiotherapist Daniel Marti and the Magpies now want a qualified practitioner with significant experience in elite professional sport in a soft tissue or medical role to 'optimise the performance of the playing squad'.

He or she will work with the first-team squad, in general, but will have a particular focus on players such as Miguel Almiron and Javier Manquillo, whose first language is Spanish, while Bruno Guimaraes speaks a bit of the language, too.

Carroll Wolves

Former Newcastle United number nine Andy Carroll is reportedly being lined up for a shock Premier League return with Wolves. The striker has been without a club since leaving West Brom, but is said to be under consideration as a free agent alternative to Diego Costa at Molineux.

Bruno Lage's side are in the market for a frontman after summer signing Sasa Kaladjzic suffered an injury on his debut. The former Stuttgart forward felt a pain in his knee during the victory over Southampton on Saturday, and scans later revealed the 25-year-old had sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Wolves agreed a deal for Costa as a replacement for Kaladzjic, but the former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea striker has so far been denied a work permit. The club are set to appeal the Home Office ruling, but have identified Carroll as an alternative according to the Daily Telegraph.

Trippier TOTW

Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier has been named in WhoScored's Premier League Team of the Week. Trippier made more key passes (6) than any other player on the pitch and was a constant threat from set pieces throughout the 90 minutes.

The England international also kept his third league clean sheet of the season and received an 8.2 rating. His free-kick delivery led to the game's most controversial incident when Tyrick Mitchell's own goal was ruled out following a VAR review.

Wright on Isak

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has tipped Alexander Isak to be a 'very good signing' for Newcastle United. Isak marked his debut with his first goal for the club in Newcastle's 2-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield last Wednesday, after joining the Magpies from Real Sociedad in a club record deal reported to be worth £63million.

The Swedish international was a livewire in Newcastle's goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday. He had a gilt-edged chance to add to his Premier League tally when he intercepted a clearance from Joachim Andersen to charge through on goal.

His dinked finish was foiled by an in-form Vicente Guaita but Wright believes Isak is a very good fit for Newcastle. "I like Isak at Newcastle. Another 6ft 4in striker. When you see the way he took his first goal. It was unfortunate with his next chance [against Palace] when he tried to dink it," Wright said on The Kelly & Wright Show.
