Newcastle United new boys continue to impress as Burn and Targett show real value to Magpies

Newcastle United fans have again shown their appreciation for the contribution of Dan Burn and Matt Targett to the Magpies' cause. Both put in strong performances in the 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, which was reflected in our fans' player ratings.

After every game, we ask you to rate the players out of 10, with the two January signings featuring at the top of the pike, just ahead of fellow new boy Bruno Guimaraes and central defender Fabian Schar. Brazilian midfielder Bruno was making just his second start for the Magpies, but again impressed in central midfielder, following his matchwinner display at Southampton.

Eddie Howe's side may have lost their recent unbeaten record after Kai Havertz's goal gave Chelsea at late victory, but the fans' player ratings painted the picture of a battling performance. Without players of the calibre of Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson, Joe Willock, Joelinton and Jonjo Shelvey - and with Allan Saint-Maximin on the bench as he recovers from illness - United creates chances against the Blues.

They perhaps should have had a plenty when Jacob Murphy was felled in the box by Trevoh Chalobah, while Harvertz could have been shown a red card for a challenge on Burn. It was the former Brighton man who led the way in our fans' ratings, following by Targett, with Schar in third and Bruno in fourth.

Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and Jacob Murphy both averaged a score of more than seven, while Sean Longstaff, making his first start since the 1-1 draw with Watford in mid-January, also caught the eye. Here are the full fans' ratings after the game.

Newcastle must now prepare for a third away game in a week, with a visit to struggling Everton at Goodison Park on Thursday night. The Magpies could be boosted by the return of several players, with a 17-day break to follow before they return to action against Tottenham on April 3.
