Newcastle United morning headlines as club tipped to sign Winks, fans spot takeover hint

Here are your Newcastle United morning headlines for Tuesday, 24 November.

Winks tipped for Magpies

Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has been urged to join Newcastle on a loan deal this January by former Spurs striker Darren Bent.

The 24-year-old has become a peripheral figure at Spurs this season and needs first-team football if he is to stand a chance of playing for England in next summer’s European Championship.

Bent told Football Insider : “To be fair to (Jose) Mourinho, I do think he is quite honest and he’s quite fair – I mean, Danny Rose would probably beg to differ.

“I think for Harry Winks, I think there will be takers for him, even a Newcastle, he could go to Newcastle and play so there will be options for him in January.

Lee Ryder's verdict from Newcastle's defeat to Chelsea

“It’s important he doesn’t waste half a season in and out the team, not playing well while people like Kalvin Phillips, every week, if he’s fit, he plays. Declan Rice, if he’s fit, he plays.

“It’s one of them, you can’t afford it, in these years leading up to a major tournament, you can’t afford to waste time.”

Magpies fans react to takeover hint

Newcastle fans believe Nick De Marco QC has dropped another hint about a takeover of the club in his latest tweet, as outlined by the Chronicle .

De Marco represented Mike Ashley in the high-profile dispute with the Premier League this summer and fans have been monitoring his progress since.

The sports lawyer posted pictures on social media of his attempt at baking a stottie - a flat round loaf of bread which has its origins in the northeast - having previously included Newcastle brown ale in the background of pictures.

The tweet arrived following confirmation of Newcastle’s legal action against the Premier League to intensify the speculation.

Lascelles explains rant at teammates

Newcastle captain Jamal Lascelles has spoken about his rant at team-mates following a damaging 3-1 defeat by Southampton in the 2015/16 campaign.

It was Rafael Benitez’s side’s ninth successive away loss, prompting Lascelles to argue that the club needed “more characters” and “players who care”

The Magpies suffered relegation that campaign and the central defender was subsequently made captain of the club.

"Just frustration, really," Lascelles recalled in an interview with NUFC TV, as highlighted by the Chronicle . "I think, at the time, I didn't really feature much. It was my first season at Newcastle.

"I used to train with the first team and I used to travel to the games. Sometimes, I would not be in the squad but then I started to feature a little bit after Christmas.

"I just saw a lot of things I didn't like and I didn't expect from professional footballers. Social media and seeing comments and seeing fans' frustration, me being in around stuff while they're frustrated, it was kind of just a build-up really.

"When I started to play more, I felt I had a bit more of a voice and I just thought it was the right time to say something.

"I felt that was a perfect example of when something had to be said, really."
