Allan Saint-Maximin has praised his Newcastle United team-mates for refusing to throw in the towel against Southampton.
On a day when United wasted some glorious chances and missed a penalty through Matt Ritchie, it was the Frenchman who produced the moment of magic to send 2,900 Geordie fans back home with smiles on their faces.
Saint-Maximin poked home with just 12 minutes left before going head over heels in front of his adoring public.
After the win, Saint-Maximin said: "It was a really difficult game.
"The team played great against West Brom in the FA Cup and we have followed that up against Southampton.
"It's difficult in the head when you get a lot of chances and don't score.
"We kept going and I had one opportunity.
"We now have 35 points and that's really good because our next game is at home."
