Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley has revealed the club's festive half-season ticket offer is designed to pump up the volume at St James' Park.
The club have made 10,000 free half-season ticket deals available to current season ticket holders as a reward for their loyalty this season.
Thousands of fans opted to walk away from the club on the back of Rafa Benitez's departure last June.
But Charnley told the Chronicle: "We want to fill the stadium.
"We know that when we have a full and noisy St James' Park it makes a difference.
"That's what Steve wants and the players want.
"The conversation, I had with him was about, how can we best achieve that?
"At this moment in time our view was this is the best way to achieve it.
"I hope that from Everton onwards that what we have is a full stadium and everybody being right behind Steve and the team.
"If we have that, it will definitely make a difference."
Charnley says that a conversation with Steve Bruce after the Southampton game led to the idea of rewarding fans with a free ticket until the end of the season to share with friends or family.
He went on: "With our crowd at the weekend against Southampton, which was lower than our average this season, the win followed and I had a conversation with Steve (Bruce) and he said 'is there something we can do?'
"Sometimes these things are about momentum.
"The results we have had over the last week and Steve asked what we could do.
"I felt that the supporters that have been with us and been good to Steve and the team, really supportive, it was like: 'Why don't we give them something back?
"That's what we have done.
"There's no tricks, agendas, it is simply the club saying thank you to the supporters who have been here and stuck with us, and supported Steve and the team.
"It's a thank-you to you and will give people the opportunity to come into the stadium that may have ordinarily not been able to."
Charnley also hopes that younger fans can benefit from the deal.
He added:"Yes.
"We have talked before and I think we have demonstrated we have been quite creative in terms of ticket offers for example our long-term ticket deals.
"We have continually looked at ways to try to keep the stadium full.
"At this moment in time, it felt like this was the right thing to do.
"It will give people who wouldn't or couldn't come for a number of reasons the opportunity to now come and watch us at St James' Park and watch Premier League football.
"All we ask in return is that they come and get behind Steve and the team, it's all we ask."
