Newcastle United manager latest: No go on Genesio as Steve Bruce waits on green light from Sheff Wed

Newcastle United are still awaiting the green light from Sheffield Wednesday to land the services of Steve Bruce.

Despite claims that former Lyon boss Bruno Génésio is back in the running for the top job at St James' Park, the suggestion has been dismissed by sources at Newcastle.

Instead, Bruce is waiting for the go ahead to take the United job and Sheff Wed coach Lee Bullen has been placed in temporary charge of first team affairs at Hillsborough.

Bruce has agreed terms in principle with Newcastle and has been assured there is a competitive transfer budget to spend in the next three weeks.

It is also understood that talks between United and and a deal could be done if Bruce agrees to it.

Bruce has been left frustrated by Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri who is unhappy at his departure just six months into the job.

As the delay goes on Ben Dawson will take charge of Newcastle for their friendly against Wolves in the Premier League's Asia Trophy.

Dawson, speaking in Nanjing, said: "We’re waiting to hear, as is everybody else.

"What we can focus on is the job here, work hard and hopefully get a positive result."
