Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe takes staff to Three Mile in Gosforth

Staff at Gosforth's Three Mile pub were left delighted when new Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe headed there this week with some of his backroom staff.

After a week of speculation, former Bournemouth boss Howe was officially appointed as NUFC manager on Monday, after Steve Bruce left the Magpies last month.

Howe's arrival at the club came a month after the whole city celebrated the long awaited takeover and, talking about his new job, the 43-year-old was full of excitement and optimism, saying: "It feels fantastic to be head coach of Newcastle, I'm absolutely honoured and privileged.

"It's an incredible moment in my life, and judging by the reaction I've had and how the two days of training has gone, it's been a really positive start

"I'd like to thank everyone who supported me, and the board here for trusting in me in this important job."

Howe celebrated landing the job at Newcastle with a trip to one of the area's best known pubs - the Three Mile on the outskirts of Gosforth.

And workers on shift at the time were quick to get a picture with him. The Three Mile uploaded photos of Eddie and assistant Graeme Jones to their social media channels, captioning them: "Great hosting the new @nufc manager #EddieHowe with #GraemeJones and the rest of the back room staff here at The Three Mile."

Their posts about Howe's visit on Facebook and Instagram got plenty of reaction from Three Mile regulars, with many annoyed they hadn't been there at the time.

The much loved boozer on Great North Road re-opened at the end of 2020 after a £7.5million makeover to turn it into a state-of-the-art hotel, bar and restaurant.
