Newcastle United making Bruno Guimaraes push as Eddie Howe hopes for a 'couple' more signings

Eddie Howe has revealed that Newcastle United are doing 'a lot of hard work' to make a 'couple' more signings in the final days of the window.

Newcastle are pushing to sign Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and are still in the market for at least one quality centre-back before the window shuts on Monday night.

The reality is, though, that if the right player suddenly became available in another position that was not originally earmarked as a priority, the club are prepared to act.

Howe's immediate focus has been on getting more of out his current group of players during a warm-weather training camp in Jeddah ahead of the squad returning to Tyneside on Saturday.

However, the Newcastle head coach has kept in regular contact with the club's recruitment team back home as the Magpies look to make a late push in the window to boost their chances of staying up.

"A lot of hard work being done back in England," Howe told NUFC TV.

"I've got no news to tell anybody at the moment but I'm keeping regularly updated and fingers on the pulses as to what's happening but, as we know, it's a difficult window.

"We just hope we can get a couple more additions to boost the squad."

Newcastle will have to make room in their 25-man squad for any new arrivals, but Howe previously confirmed on Friday that he had not received any offers for any of his players as of yet.
