Newcastle United make out of window signing to look at striker Isaac Westendorf

Newcastle United are taking a look at young striker Isaac Westendorf on trial.

The former Barking youngster has previously played his football in the Isthmian League North Division, FA Trophy and early qualifying rounds of the FA Cup.

The 19-year-old took a place on the bench for tonight's Tyne-Tees derby match between the Magpies and Middlesbrough in Premier League 2.

Westendorf made his debut with Newcastle 3-0 up in the second half of the clash with their North-East neighbours.

With Academy boss Steve Harper watching from the stands Westendorf is the latest of a clutch of trial players to get a chance to shine.

Harper spoke in the summer about widening the net and finding talent outside the Football League and beyond the North-East area.

Newcastle's second string have made a mixed start to the season and after topping the table early they have now suffered five defeats in a row.
