Newcastle United make former Nottingham Forest loan favourite available on free transfer

Newcastle United will allow former Nottingham Forest loan favourite Jack Colback to leave the club this summer, allowing him to complete a free transfer elsewhere.

The 30-year-old is understood to have not trained with the North East clubs upon their return to training ahead of the Premier League's big restart.

The FA have allowed Newcastle and their Premier League rivals to extend their already large squads to help combat injuries that may arise during the final weeks of the season.

But Colback has not been named in Steve Bruce's expanded side and is free to find a new home this summer.

The Reds came close to signing Colback last summer following his impressive loan spell with the club, but it is thought that high wage demands prevented the move from happening.

During his two spells on loan at the City Ground, under then-manager Martin O'Neill, Colback made 52 Championship appearances and became a firm fan favourite on Trentside.

Teammate Jonjo Shelvey recently spoke to the Chronicle about Colback's training style and said: "He's still got a contract at Newcastle and he comes in and trains and he's probably near enough the best trainer.

"Knowing that you're not going to play is so hard."
