Newcastle United lose services of back-room staff member to Rafa Benitez and Everton

Newcastle United have lost the services of Cristian Fernandez to Everton.

The fitness and rehab coach has linked up with Rafa Benitez's Toffees after half a decade of service on Tyneside and becomes the first back-room change of the new era at St James' Park.

Fernandez left the club on good terms and teams up with the man who handed him his chance in the Premier League in the shape of the former Real Madrid boss.

Speaking after leaving Fernandez said: "After more than five years it is time to say goodbye.

"I want to thank Newcastle United for giving me the opportunity to live great experiences enjoying this amazing Toon, where we have felt at home.

"But above all for being able to meet so many good people who helped me grow personally and professionally."

Benitez also raided Newcastle's backroom team to land head of sports science Jamie Harley at the start of the summer.

Speaking about potential changes at the club last week new director Amanda Staveley said: "We have had an extremely busy week reviewing the business and getting to know people and it is imperative that we continue to be patient and considered in our approach.

"Change does not always happen overnight, it demands time and that we follow a carefully considered plan and strategy."
