Newcastle United loan Rodrigo Vilca to League One side

Newcastle United have loaned Rodrigo Vilca to Doncaster Rovers until January.

The Magpies will monitor the South American 23-year-old in League One in the latest phase of his development after a year on Tyneside since arriving from Deportivo Municipal.

Vilca was pulled out of Newcastle's squad that lost 3-0 to Sheffield Wednesday in the Papa Johns Trophy and will now link up with Richie Wellens' side for the first half of the season.

Donny have made a bad start to the new season and sit at the foot of the table in League One.

It remains to be seen whether he is used in the Papa Johns tie against Rotherham next week but his next league game could be a tricky trip to Wigan.

But a delighted Vilca said tonight: “I’m really excited to come to Doncaster and have a chance to show what I can do in England.

“I feel since joining Newcastle I have improved a lot already so this is the next step for me.

“I have heard a lot of positive things about the club and the players here and I am looking forward to meeting my team mates.”

Loan manager Shola Ameobi beat the clock to help get the deal done for Vilca in the closing stages of deadline day.
