Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Swansea City's Matt Grimes - but Southampton are said to be leading the race for his signature.
The midfielder is reportedly on the radar of several Premier League clubs after a solid few season seasons in the Championship, and is thought to be available for around £8m.
However, our colleagues down at Hampshire Live claim that Southampton have the advantage over Newcastle and the other sides linked due to Swansea's interest in Michael Obafemi.
Swansea were close to signing the young forward on loan back in January but he was hit by injury. He's now fully fit and Swansea are thought to have retained their interest in him, with the striker also keen to get some first-team football.
That very fact is said to give Southampton the head-start in the chase for Grimes.
Toon head coach Steve Bruce has long courted a box to box midfielder with Grimes fitting the profile - however his arrival would perhaps spell the end of Matty Longstaff's time at the club, at least under Bruce.
