Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer drops huge Premier League Hall of Fame hint

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has dropped a huge hint on whether he will be one of the inaugural members of the Premier League's Hall of Fame.

The first two inductees will be announced in March, along side a shortlist of nominees voted by fans for future inclusion.

Players will only be considered once they have retired, and Premier League chief executive Richard Masters insists a place is reserved exclusively for the "very best".

As the Premier League's all-time top scorer by some distance, Shearer is considered by many to be one of the frontrunners for the Hall of Fame.

The Magpies record goalscorer also boasts a Premier League winner's medal from his stint with Blackburn Rovers.

However, Shearer told BBC 5 Live Sport on Saturday he expects a decision on the first two inductees has already been made - and that he has received no contact from the Premier League.

The former United striker told presenter Mark Chapman: "I'm pretty sure they know who the two are by now, but if it is me, they haven't told me."

When pushed on who he believes deserves to be the first two inductees, Shearer named legends from both Arsenal and Manchester United.

He answered: "I would imagine Ryan Giggs and Thierry Henry."
