Newcastle United are reportedly leading the race for Tottenham's out-of-favour Wales star Joe Rodon ahead of the upcoming January window, with a host of other Premier Leagues sides also tracking him.
The Daily Telegraph claims the Magpies are keen for defensive reinforcements in their bid to avoid the drop, and have set their sights on the former Swansea City centre-back as a potential option on loan.
Having made just one Premier League appearance this term, Rodon seems destined to move on from north London, and is understood to be open to a move away in January in a bid to get further game-time under his belt, particularly ahead of a potential World Cup next year.
Newcastle would surely be able to offer the first-team football Rodon craves, but sources have told WalesOnline that there is likely to be plenty of competition for his signature over the coming weeks.
Indeed, numerous clubs have enquired over his availability ahead of the January window, although it's understood none have yet backed up their interest with a firm approach at this stage.
The ongoing effects of the Covid-19 pandemic are believed to have left a few suitors hesitant, but Rodon is nevertheless likely to remain the subject of keen interest over the coming weeks.
Brighton & Hove Albion's Graham Potter is a known admirer, having worked with Rodon during the player's formative years at Swansea, although it's not yet clear if he would be interested in a reunion at this stage.
Watford and Leeds United have also been mentioned as possible destinations, with an exit from Spurs looking increasingly likely, state the Telegraph.
The arrival of boss Antonio Conte was initially heralded as the chance for a new start for Rodon, but the Italian has already admitted that the 24-year-old is second choice behind Eric Dier as things stand.
He said recently : "The first thing that I tried to do – and am doing – is find the right position for every player. And in every position you have a double player, and in the characteristic, I see Joe behind Eric [Dier] in the central position."
